Celebrate Women’s Health Week: Give the Gift of Wellness to Yourself and Mom

Isn’t it beautiful how God arranged for National Women’s Health Week to begin on Mother’s Day? Here in North Idaho, as spring fully embraces us with new life, we have this wonderful opportunity to focus on something so important – the wellness of women who give so much of themselves to others.

As a massage therapist, I often see women who come in completely depleted. Maybe you can relate? You’ve been taking care of everyone else, managing households, careers, and family responsibilities, but somewhere along the way, your own wellness got pushed to the bottom of that never-ending to-do list.

Understanding Our Need for Renewal

Let’s be honest – when was the last time you truly focused on your own wellness? Not just a quick bubble bath (though those are lovely!), but real, deep-down care for your body, mind, and spirit? God designed our bodies to need rest and renewal, yet so often, especially as women, we feel guilty taking that time.

Did you know that stress actually settles differently in women’s bodies compared to men’s? We tend to carry it in our shoulders, neck, and upper back – those same muscles we use to rock babies, hug our teenagers, or comfort a friend. No wonder they get so tight!

The Beautiful Balance of Giving and Receiving Care

Here’s something I’ve noticed in my years of massage therapy practice: women who learn to receive care become even better at giving it. It’s like the airplane oxygen mask principle – you need to secure your own before helping others. When you allow yourself to be cared for, whether through prayer, massage therapy, or other forms of self-care, you’re actually improving your ability to care for those you love.

Some practical ways to start this care cycle:

  • Schedule regular prayer and meditation time
  • Book a therapeutic massage session
  • Take quiet walks in our beautiful Coeur d’Alene surroundings
  • Practice gentle stretching
  • Give yourself permission to rest

Making Massage Part of Your Wellness Journey

At Abandon Your Aches Massage, we understand the unique needs of women’s bodies. Whether you’re a new mom with a sore back from nursing, a grandmother whose shoulders ache from gardening, or a career woman dealing with computer-related tension, therapeutic massage can help restore balance to your body and spirit.

During Women’s Health Week, why not start a new tradition? Instead of just giving Mom a one-time massage gift certificate (though that’s wonderful too!), consider making wellness a shared priority. Many of our clients find that monthly massage sessions become precious time for physical renewal and spiritual reflection.

Your Invitation to Wellness

This May, we’re welcoming new clients who are ready to prioritize their wellness journey. Whether you’re booking for yourself or sharing the gift of massage with your mom, grandmother, or another special woman in your life, we’re here to support your path to whole-person health.

Ready to celebrate Women’s Health Week with renewed commitment to your wellness? Give us a call at 208-691-2497 to schedule your session, or as a fuzzy slipper pajama option, to to our website www.ayamassagecda.com and click on the “Book Now” button and it will take you right to my scheduling system. Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish – it’s essential to being able to care for others.

And here’s a gentle reminder: just as we thank God for the gift of mothers, let’s also remember to thank Him for giving us bodies capable of renewal and healing. Sometimes the best way to show that gratitude is by taking good care of what we’ve been given.
